I started as an apprentice locksmith way back in 1979 completing locksmith bench work for 3 years, then I went out with a qualified locksmith to learn the skills of lock fitting & lock opening. It took me one & half hours to fit my first mortice deadlock! Don't worry its only 20 minutes these days. In 1993 I felt I needed a new challenge and wanted to start my own business.
I moved to Sidcup and started the process of building a company of my own. It takes time, money and patience but I think has been worth all my time and effort. The disheartening thing that has happened to the locksmith trade has been the bad press that has over the past eight years or so crept in. We have plenty of what I call "Rogue Traders" mainly sent out by (call centres or nationals) 80% of their engineers have little or no knowledge in locksmith work.
Believe me I have seen their handy work, locksmith training courses (which are just quick fix money making organisations) very basic training, which once completed is Thank you, here are some call centre numbers.

Services
Always look for an area code or land line local number, not just a mobile or 0800/0845/0808.
Some companies are crafty and rent local numbers from BT, that again is a reason for a visual address.
Always make a note of the person you are speaking to, make sure they are clear with you on when they will be with you and always try to get a price if possible.
Call Centres have to find a locksmith who will cover the job for them after you have made the call, so when they say within the hour that could mean two, three etc.

Paul arrived promptly after I contacted him.
He is clearly very highly experienced, and honest, gives good advice and his prices are very fair with no 'surprise' charges.
We've been using Paul for many years, he's always on time, competitively priced and provides an excellent service.
A tough act to beat, service is unsurpassed.
Would like to thank Paul the locksmith for all his help and advice when I called him out (which ended up saving me a lot of money) he made sure that I felt safe in my home without breaking the bank.
